Sunday School at Northminster
Nursery
The nursery opens at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, and parents may drop off their children after that time. The nursery is open to children up to age two. If parents want to stay for Adult Education, they may make arrangements with the nursery director that morning.
Two-year olds through Kindergarten
Sunday School for children up through kindergarten begins at 9:20 a.m. in their respective classrooms and concludes at the end of the worship service. Parents pick up their children at their classrooms before they go to coffee hour.
Grades 1-5
First through 5th grade students join their parents in the 9:30 a.m. worship service until the conclusion of the Children's Moment when they are dismissed to their Rotation Model Sunday School. Students experience scripture through cooking, storytelling, art, science experiments and other methods that promote memorable experiences. Teachers and students leave the service together and go to their classes. Sunday School concludes at 10:45 am. Grades 1-5 will be led to Sunday School Choir rehearsal immediately following Sunday School, and will be released from Room 2 (basement) at 11:05 to a parent or older sibling.
Grades 6, 7 & 8
Our Jr. High classes meet in their own classrooms and experience scripture along with mission projects, drama and worship participation. In the past year our Jr. High classes have raised money for mission, led worship services and created soup for local soup kitchens. Curriculum study has been based on the seasons of the church year and the lectionary. Classes meet from 9:45-10:45 each Sunday. Students are dismissed to meet their parents in coffee hour.
Confirmation -- Grade 9
Confirmation class is for students Grade 9 or older who want to explore what it means to be a church member and a disciple of Jesus Christ. Fellowship, Bible Study, mission work, and theological issues are presented and discussed. Classes meet two Sunday afternoons a month from September-May and begin each week with fellowship and lunch.
High School
Challenge Class is designed to provide Northminster's high school students with the opportunity to explore their faith with an eye on broader social issues and current events. Challenge Class is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings and enables teens to attend our eleven 15 worship service. In addition to Challenge Class, Northminster youth can get involved in our youth fellowship program called Tuxis. TUXIS participates in projects that heal the earth environmentally, weekend retreats to Saugatuck Michigan, and a yearly mission trip.
All Ages
Northminster's Thursday night program, "ToGather," offers members of all ages an opportunity to gather for fellowship, worship, and Christian education. Our ToGather schedule varies somewhat over the course of the year, but generally dinner is served at 6:30 p.m., Joyful Noise and Cherub choirs meet at 7 p.m., and children's and adult education programming begins at 7:30 p.m. ToGather runs from September to early May.
